Pop superstar Lady Gaga has launched a campaign to make bullying illegal after learning about the recent suicide of a gay teenager.

New York native Jamey Rodemeyer allegedly took his own life on Sunday (18Sep11) following years of cruel taunts from peers over his sexuality.

The 14-year-old student was a big fan of Gaga, who was devastated to hear of his death and now plans to meet with President Barack Obama to address the spate of teenage suicides across the country.

In a series of posts on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "The past days I've spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someone's life. Bullying must become illegal. It is a hate crime.

"I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it... Make a law for Jamey."
